Mathematician and research software engineer
Hey. My name is Wilf Wilson. I am a mathematician, programmer, and many other things besides.
I currently work as a so-called Scientific Software Engineer at the UK's Met Office. I work in the part of the organisation that forecasts space weather. It's really interesting.
Before that, I worked as a research fellow with Professor Chris Jefferson, in the Computer Science department of the University of St Andrews.
My first job post-PhD was in 2018-2019, when I was a postdoctoral researcher in computational algebra, working with Professor Rebecca Waldecker at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany.
From 2014 until 2018 I was a PhD student at the Univeristy of St Andrews, supervised by Professor James D. Mitchell.
My interests
Currently I am particularly interested in
- computational algebra,
- semigroup theory,
- group theory,
- graph theory,
- combinatorics.
